Celebrating Growth

JACOB

Twenty-six-year-old Jacob joined Foster Your Future amid significant personal struggle. He was living in a shelter, had lost his dog and was severely in debt. He felt lost and directionless. With FYF, Jacob got his fresh start and found a way forward. More than three years later, he has had consistently stable housing for the first time in his life. He furthered his education and now works in a respected field with professional growth opportunities. Jacob owns his truck outright, has eliminated his credit card debt, built an emergency fund and started a ROTH IRA. “I can’t imagine where my life would be without Foster Your Future which gave a young guy like me a way to become successful when no one else believed in me (including myself).”

SHARON

Bachelor’s degree already in hand, Sharon joined Foster Your Future when she was unable to find a job in her field of study, was struggling to pay her bills and facing eviction. She was already doing all the “right” things: working fulltime, doing odd jobs to supplement her main earnings and volunteering as a Court Appointed Advocate for children in the foster care system. Although Sharon had developed many of the skills necessary for independence, she needed a career pathway, financial support for training to improve her employability, and social support to encourage her along. With those things in place through FYF, Sharon secured a competitive internship followed by professional placement within her chosen field. “Foster Your Future truly wanted to see me succeed and I am so thankful for the investment in my future.”

ANGELA

Angela joined Foster Your Future when she was a few courses shy of graduating with her bachelor’s degree. She was experiencing financial hardship and was uncertain of how she would be able to take her final classes or move into independent housing for the first time in her life. With FYF’s support, Angela completed her final classes and a 5-month fellowship. She moved into her first apartment and found a well-paying job in her field within 4 months. FYF’s services helped Angela avoid financial setback that can arise during transitioning from school. Angela credits her mentor in providing much needed advice and guidance when she had none: “My mentor was very kind and supportive throughout my transition from college. Having her by my side made all difference during an uncertain time.”
