Foster Your Future's Young Adult Advisory Committee ensures that the voices and experiences of young adults that have participated in FYF programming help shape the organization's efforts by providing opportunities to remain engaged with the organization, contribute their expertise, and build lasting connections. The committee fosters leadership development and peer support among young adults with lived experience in foster care, empowering them to influence positive change.
We expect a minimum 1 year commitment. Meetings are held quarterly, and in-person attendance is preferred.
Young adult advisors may contribute in the following ways:
-
Program Input: Provide input during facilitated discussions to support FYF’s efforts to provide that better meet the needs of the young adults it serves. Review policies and procedures and recommend changes to ensure they are youth-centered.
-
Awareness and Outreach: Share personal experiences and insights to inform awareness and advocacy efforts. Participate in public speaking engagements, panels, or storytelling initiatives. Provide website, blog and social media content.
-
Peer Support: Act as peer navigators for new program participants who may be reluctant or unsure of how to optimize participation and receive maximum program benefit. Plan and host events that connect young adults who have experienced foster care.
-
